Save our Swifts Project

“Save Our Walmer Swifts” is a small group of residents of Admiralty Mews, the converted Royal Marine Barracks in Walmer.

Fourteen years ago there were 20 nesting pairs of swifts, in 2013 only 8 pairs because many of the nest sites on the Barracks buildings have been filled in.

The group is monitoring numbers, restoring nest sites and installing nest boxes in the Mews, recognizing that this will be a long term project to conserve this remarkable bird.

The group will be posting news on the Walmer Environment website and can be contacted on walmerswifts@aol.com.
